About this banknote
The Reserve Bank of Australia issued the 1-pound banknote (Pick 34a) between 1961 and 1965. This series was introduced during the tenure of Governor Herbert Cole Coombs and Secretary to the Treasury Roland Wilson, whose signatures appear on the notes. The issuance of this series continued until the transition to decimal currency on February 14, 1966.
The obverse of the banknote features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the right side, with the Australian coat of arms at the top center. The reverse displays medallions depicting explorers Charles Sturt and Hamilton Hume. The note measures 155 x 80 mm and is printed on paper. The printing was executed by T. S.
