The National Bank of Romania issued the 500 lei banknote (Pick 22c) on February 12, 1920. This issuance was part of the 1909-1916 series, which was reissued between 1916 and 1920. The banknote was printed by Georges Duval, as indicated by the inscription "GEO. DUVAL FECIT" on both sides.

The obverse features a standing woman with a fruit basket on her shoulder and a boy with a fruit basket on his head to the left, and a seated farmer's wife holding a sickle with a sheaf of wheat to the right. The reverse depicts two farm wives standing barefoot in a field with hoes over their shoulders. This variant is characterized by the signature titles "Guvernator," "Director," and "Directorul Casei."
