The National Bank of Romania issued the 1,000 lei banknote (Pick #23) in 1915, as part of a series introduced between 1910 and 1931. The 1915 issue was authorized on July 23, 1915, with signatures from Governor I.G. Bibicescu, Director Th. Capitanovici, and Central Cashier M.Z. Demetrescu.
