The National Bank of Romania issued the 20 lei banknote (Pick 20) between 1909 and 1929. This series was introduced on February 6, 1909, under the governorship of Theodor Ștefănescu, with I.G. Bibicescu as Director and M.Z. Demetrescu as Cashier.

The obverse features a seated girl with fruit and sickle on the left, the coat of arms in the center, and a seated boy with an oar on the right. The reverse displays a flying eagle with a cross in its beak and the coat of arms in its talons, with men on rafts in a river below. The banknote measures 162 x 100 mm and includes a watermark depicting the heads of Trajan and Minerva.
