The official currency of Venezuela is the Bolívar, issued by the Central Bank of Venezuela since 1939. Paper money was first introduced in Venezuela in 1879 when the "Bolívar Fuerte" was issued. In 2008, the country underwent a redenomination, eliminating three zeros from the currency, which resulted in the introduction of the new Bolívar.
Collectors are drawn to Venezuela's banknotes for their vibrant colors and unique themes. A standout feature is the series featuring national heroes and significant figures, with the 10,000 Bolívar note illustrating the iconic Simón Bolívar. Additionally, banknotes from distinct historical eras, particularly the Bolívar Fuerte and its modern replacements, showcase various artistic styles and security features.
