Banknotes of Rwanda

The official currency of Rwanda is the Rwandan franc, issued by the National Bank of Rwanda. Paper money was first introduced in Rwanda in 1973. In 2003, the country underwent a currency reform that replaced the old franc at a rate of 1,000 to 1 new franc to stabilize the economy after the 1994 genocide. Collectors appreciate Rwanda's banknotes for their vibrant colors and intricate designs. The 2018 series, for example, features images of national symbols and wildlife, including the iconic helmeted guineafowl, highlighting Rwanda's biodiversity and commitment to conservation. Each note also incorporates advanced security features, making them appealing to numismatists.
