Banknotes of North Korea

The official currency of North Korea is the North Korean won (KPW), issued by the Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Paper money was first introduced in North Korea in 1947, shortly after the establishment of the state. A major redenomination occurred in 2009, where two zeros were removed from all existing banknotes to combat inflation.
Collectors are drawn to North Korean banknotes for their vivid designs and unique features. The 2009 series, in particular, showcases intricate holographic elements and portraits of leaders that reflect the state's political ideology. The use of bright colors and distinct national symbols also makes these banknotes a unique addition to any collection.
