Banknotes of Montenegro

Total banknotes: 18
The official currency of Montenegro is the euro, although the country uses the euro without being a member of the Eurozone. The Central Bank of Montenegro is the issuing authority responsible for all currency matters. Paper money was first introduced in the country in 2000, when the euro was adopted as a de facto currency after the breakup of the Yugoslav dinar, which had undergone major hyperinflation. A significant reform occurred in 2006, coinciding with Montenegro's independence, which reaffirmed the use of the euro. Collectors find the banknotes of Montenegro particularly appealing due to their unique designs that showcase local culture and landmarks. The 2013 series includes distinct images such as the Njegoš Mausoleum and the Old Bridge in Mostar, combining historical and architectural elements. The use of vibrant colors and modern security features in these banknotes further attracts philatelists and numismatists alike.
