The official currency of Guinea is the Guinean franc (GNF), issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea, established in 1960. Paper money was first introduced in Guinea in 1959, shortly after gaining independence. In 1986, the government undertook a reform to address hyperinflation by redenominating the currency, resulting in a new series of banknotes.
Collectors are drawn to Guinea's banknotes due to their vibrant and intricate designs, which often depict national landmarks and local flora and fauna. The 2002 series, featuring images of the Conakry Grand Mosque and various native animals, is particularly sought after for its artistic representation and historical significance following the previous redenomination.
