The official currency of Comoros is the Comorian franc (KMF), issued by the Central Bank of the Comoros, established in 2005. Paper money was first introduced in the country in the early 1970s, with the first series featuring denominations of 100, 500, and 1,000 francs. In 1996, a redenomination occurred, and a new series of banknotes was issued reflecting the updated currency values. Collectors appreciate Comorian banknotes for their vibrant designs and the incorporation of unique motifs, including the country's rich biodiversity. The 2000 franc note from the 2004 series features a depiction of the iconic Anjouan island, showcasing its natural scenery along with the bank's logo, highlighting significant landmarks and cultural symbols relevant to the Comorian identity.
