Banknotes of Chad

The official currency of Chad is the Central African CFA franc, issued by the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). Paper money was first introduced in Chad in 1945, coinciding with the region's integration into the French colonial banking system. In 1973, the currency underwent a major reform that established the current CFA franc as a replacement for the previous colonies' franc currencies. Collectors appreciate Chad's banknotes for their intricate designs that often feature local fauna and flora. The 2002 series, for example, highlights the country’s biodiversity with vivid depictions of native animals such as the Addax antelope, showcasing themes of environmental preservation and national pride. Each note in this series also possesses unique security features, including watermarks and holographic stripes.
