Banknotes of Belarus

The official currency of Belarus is the Belarusian ruble, issued by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus. Paper money was first introduced in the country in 1992, coinciding with its independence from the Soviet Union. In 2016, a redenomination occurred, removing four zeros from the currency, which aimed to simplify transactions and restore public confidence in the ruble. Collectors focus on the diverse designs of Belarusian banknotes, which feature prominent historical figures and landmarks. The 2009 series, for example, includes imagery of the famous Brest Hero-Fortress and the renowned author Yanka Kupala, highlighting the nation’s literary and architectural achievements.
