About this banknote
Bank Indonesia issued the 50,000 rupiah banknote (Pick 136b) in 1996 as part of its ongoing series to commemorate 25 years of national development from 1968 to 1993. This series was introduced to highlight Indonesia's progress during this period.
The obverse features President Soeharto seated at the left center, surrounded by various scenes depicting development activities, including temples, a water buffalo plowing fields, a highway interchange, a graduation ceremony, a doctor and nurse, a satellite, a jet plane, an offshore oil platform, a ship, and a petroleum refinery. The reverse displays a Boeing 747 in Garuda Indonesia livery soaring above the control tower at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. The watermark is of Wage Rudolf Soepratman, the composer of Indonesia's national anthem.
