About this banknote
The Banca d'Italia issued the 50,000 lire banknote (Pick 113a) on February 6, 1984, during the tenure of Governor Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and Cashier Vittorio Stevani. This series was introduced to address the inflationary pressures of the early 1980s, which had significantly reduced the purchasing power of the lira.
The obverse features a self-portrait of Gian Lorenzo Bernini at the right and the Triton Fountain in Rome at the center. The reverse displays Bernini's equestrian statue of Emperor Constantine at the left center and a section of the Scala Regia in Vatican City. The watermark includes Bernini's self-portrait and the "BI" monogram. The banknote measures 149 x 70 mm and is predominantly red-violet in color.
