Bank Indonesia issued the 5000 rupiah banknote (Pick 130g) in 1998 as part of the 1992–2001 series. This series, introduced on 28 December 1992, marked the first complete overhaul of Indonesian banknotes since 1968. The 5000 rupiah note was printed by Perum Percetakan Uang RI.

The front of the note features the Sasando musical instrument and a Rote Island tapestry at the center, with the national emblem at the upper right. The reverse depicts the Kelimutu volcano with its three-colored lakes. The watermark is of Tjut Njak Din. The note measures 144 x 72 mm and includes a solid security thread with "BANK INDONESIA" printed on it.
