About this banknote
The 5,000 rupiah banknote was issued by Bank Indonesia in 1975. This issuance was part of a series introduced to replace earlier notes, with the 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 rupiah denominations redesigned and released in 1976. The previous series, featuring Sudirman, was withdrawn as legal tender on 1 September 1977.
The front of the note displays a fisherman holding a net to the right, with the Indonesian coat of arms in the top left corner. The reverse features three traditional sailing ships. The watermark is of Tjut Njak Dhien, a prominent Indonesian guerrilla leader. The note measures 158 x 79 mm and was printed by Perum Peruri, Karawang, Indonesia.
