About this banknote

The Narodowy Bank Polski (National Bank of Poland) commissioned the printing of the 500 zlotych banknote (Pick 172) on March 1, 1990. These notes were produced in Germany by Giesecke & Devrient. However, due to concerns over insufficient security features, the banknotes were withdrawn before entering circulation. In 1996, they were overprinted with "NIEOBIEGOWY" (non-negotiable) and released to collectors.

The obverse of the banknote features the Cathedral in Gniezno on the right and the national coat of arms on the left. The reverse displays a medieval seal on the left. The watermark consists of the national coat of arms.
