About this banknote
The Central Bank of Kenya issued the 500 shillings banknote (Pick 50b) on April 1, 2006. This release was part of a series introduced in 2003, reinstating the portrait of Kenya's first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, on the banknotes.
The obverse features a front-right facing bust of President Kenyatta at the left center, with the national coat of arms at the upper center. The reverse depicts the National Assembly building at the left center and a shield with spears at the lower right. The banknote measures 148 x 78 mm and includes a lion's head watermark.
