About this banknote
The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) issued the 500-krooni banknote in 2000 as part of the Second Estonian Kroon period (1992–2010). This release marked the fourth series of the 500-krooni denomination, following previous issues in 1991, 1994, and 1996.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Carl Robert Jakobson, an Estonian politician and writer, along with the name of his newspaper, "Sakala." The reverse side depicts a barn swallow in flight over a South Estonian landscape. This series introduced enhanced security features, including a portrait watermark, a diffraction foil with microtext border (Exelgram), and a dark security thread with transparent text "500EEK EESTI PANK."
