The National Bank of Belgium issued the 500 Francs / 100 Belgas banknote (Pick 109) between 1938 and 1943. This series was introduced to replace earlier designs and featured updated security features and artistic elements.
The front of the banknote displays the bank's name and denomination, encircled by allegorical figures representing Art and Science, along with cherubs. The reverse features a seated allegorical woman, coats of arms for nine Belgian provinces, a crown, the Belgian lion, and allegorical figures riding a chariot drawn by two winged horses.
