About this banknote
The Republic of the United States of Brazil issued the 500 cruzeiros banknote (Pick 148) in 1949 as part of the 1949-1950 Estampa 2A series. This series was introduced to replace the previous mil réis currency, following the monetary reform of 1942 that established the cruzeiro as the new official currency.
The front of the banknote features a dark green portrait of Dom João VI at the center. The back displays a blue-black maritime allegory with ships at the center. Printed by Thomas de la Rue & Company, Limited, London, the note measures 157 x 67 mm and was demonetized on February 12, 1967.
