About this banknote
The Bank Indonesia issued the 50 Rupiah banknote on January 1, 1959. This note was part of a series commissioned by Governor Sjafruddin Prawiranegara in 1957 and printed by Thomas De La Rue & Company, Limited, London. The series was introduced to replace earlier notes that were susceptible to counterfeiting.
The obverse of the banknote features a sunflower at the center, with the denomination "Lima Puluh Rupiah" and "Bank Indonesia" inscribed. The reverse depicts two white-bellied sea eagles (Icthyophaga leucogaster) along with boats and buildings. The note measures 149 x 77 mm and includes a watermark of the Garuda Pancasila, Indonesia's coat of arms.
