About this banknote
The Banco de México issued the 50 pesos banknote on March 31, 2021, as part of its new series of banknotes. This series was introduced to enhance security features and incorporate designs reflecting Mexico's historical identity and natural heritage.
The front of the note features a fragment of the reverse side of the monolith called "Teocalli de la Guerra Sagrada," depicting an eagle perched on a nopal with the "Atl tlachinolli" in its beak. In the background is a representation of the city of Tenochtitlan, based on a portion of Diego Rivera's mural. The reverse side illustrates the ecosystem of rivers and lakes, represented by the axolotl and maize in Xochimilco, Mexico City, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
