The Bank of Mexico (Banco de México) issued the 50 pesos banknote in 1972 as part of a series that began in 1948. This series was introduced to standardize the nation's currency and featured prominent historical figures and landmarks.
The obverse of the 1972 50 pesos note displays a portrait of Ignacio Allende, a leader in Mexico's War of Independence, positioned on the left side. The reverse features the Monument to Independence, designed by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado and sculptor Enrique Alciati. This banknote, measuring 155 x 67 mm, was printed by the American Bank Note Company and was demonetized on January 1, 1996.
