About this banknote

The Banco Central de Chile issued the 50 pesos banknote (Pick 121) in 1960, during the transition from the peso to the escudo currency. This series was introduced to facilitate the changeover, with existing 50 pesos notes overprinted to indicate their new value in escudos.

The obverse features a portrait of Aníbal Pinto, President of Chile from 1876 to 1881, on the right side. The reverse displays the bank's seal at the center. The note measures 145 x 70 mm and was printed by the Casa de Moneda de Chile. A notable feature is the watermark depicting Diego Portales.
