About this banknote
The Norges Bank issued the 50-krone banknote (Pick 46) on 20 January 1997 as part of the seventh series of Norwegian banknotes. This series was developed to enhance security features and accommodate the increased use of ATMs and vending machines. The 50-krone note remained in circulation until it ceased to be legal tender on 18 October 2019.
The front of the 50-krone note features a portrait of Peter Christen Asbjørnsen, a renowned Norwegian folklorist. The back depicts water lilies and a dragonfly, motifs inspired by Asbjørnsen's tale "A Summer Night in Krogskogen." The banknote measures 128 x 60 mm and is printed in dark green on a pale green and multicolor underprint. The watermark consists of a repeated vertical image of Asbjørnsen.
