The Central Bank of Brazil issued this 50 cruzados banknote in 1989. This series was introduced as part of Brazil’s currency reforms between 1986 and 1988, during a time of economic adjustments under President José Sarney. The cruzado was introduced to replace the cruzeiro at a rate of 1 cruzado = 1,000 cruzeiros.
