About this banknote
The Junta de Vigilancia issued this 50 centavos gold certificate on August 17, 1917, under Law No. 2429. This series was introduced to provide a standardized and secure form of currency during a period of economic transition in Peru.
The obverse features an allegory of Liberty seated at the center, holding a shield and staff, with the document's title above. The reverse displays the Peruvian coat of arms at the center, with inscriptions above and below. Printed by Litografía T. Scheuch in Lima, the note measures 161 × 95 mm and was redeemable in gold coin at a rate of 20 certificates per Peruvian pound.
