The Central Bank of Egypt issued the 5-pound banknote (Pick 63) in 2006, during the tenure of Governor Farouk El-Okdah (2003–2013). This series, introduced in 2001, continued to be produced until 2014.
The obverse features the Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque, located in Cairo, depicted at the center. The reverse displays a Pharaonic wall relief illustrating the Nile god Hapi and scenes of agriculture and fishing. The banknote measures 145 x 70 mm and includes a watermark of King Tutankhamun.
