About this banknote
The Central Bank of Egypt issued the 5-pound banknote (Pick 45) between 1969 and 1978. This series was introduced during the transition from the United Arab Republic (1958–1971) to the Arab Republic of Egypt (1971–present).
The obverse features the Ahmad ibn Tulun Mosque in Cairo at the center right. The reverse depicts Hapi, the ancient Egyptian god of the Nile's annual flooding, bearing offerings to the right, and the ruins of the Ramesseum, the funerary temple of Pharaoh Ramses II, to the left. The watermark is an image of an ancient Egyptian scribe.
