About this banknote
The National Bank of Egypt issued the 5-pound banknote (Pick 31) between 1952 and 1960. This series was introduced following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which led to the establishment of the Republic of Egypt in 1953. The banknote was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company in the United Kingdom.
The obverse features a dark green, grey-blue, and brown color scheme, depicting the mask of Tutankhamun at the right and the Muhammad Ali Mosque at the left. The reverse displays a statue of the Greek god Nilus, representing the Nile River, accompanied by 16 children symbolizing the river's branches at that time. The watermark consists of a lotus flower.
