About this banknote

The Banco Central de la República Argentina issued the 5 Pesos banknote (Pick 283) between 1969 and 1971. This provisional series was created by overprinting the new denomination on existing 500 Pesos notes to address immediate currency needs.

The obverse features a portrait of General José de San Martín on the right, with the overprinted denomination "5 Pesos Ley 18.188" in black ink over the original watermark area. The reverse displays the Casa Grand Bourg, San Martín's residence in Buenos Aires. The banknote measures 168 × 85 mm and was printed by Casa de Moneda, Argentina.
