The National Bank of Cuba issued the 5 pesos banknote in 1960, printed by the American Bank Note Company in New York. This series was introduced following the Cuban Revolution, during which Che Guevara served as the bank's president from November 26, 1959, to February 26, 1961.
The obverse features a central portrait of Máximo Gómez within an oval frame, with the bank's red seal to the left. The reverse displays the Cuban coat of arms encircled at the center, with the country's name above and the denomination on both ends. This note measures 156 x 67 mm and was demonetized on August 4, 1961.
