About this banknote
The Banco Central de la República Argentina issued the 5 pesos banknote (Pick 264) in 1951, with production continuing until 1959. This series was introduced under the authority of Laws No. 12,962 and 13,571, which governed the issuance of currency during that period.
The obverse features a seated allegorical figure of Liberty, known as Progreso, holding a lit torch in her left hand and resting her right hand on a shield bearing the Argentine coat of arms. The reverse displays the Argentine coat of arms surrounded by laurel branches. The banknote measures 146 x 73 mm and lacks a security thread. It was printed by the Casa de Moneda de la Nación and remained in circulation until its demonetization on July 1, 1965.
