The 5 lira banknote was issued by the Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası in 2005 as part of the New Turkish Lira series. This series was introduced following the redenomination of the Turkish currency where six zeros were removed from the old lira to simplify transactions starting January 1, 2005.
