About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 5 kwacha banknote (Pick 25) between 1980 and 1988. This series was introduced to replace the earlier 5 kwacha note first issued in 1973, which had caused confusion due to its similarity in color to the 50 ngwee note.
The obverse features a portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda on the right and an African fish eagle on the left center. The reverse depicts the Kariba Dam at the left center. The watermark is a portrait of President Kaunda. The note measures 138 x 70 mm and was printed by De La Rue.
