About this banknote
The Reserve Bank of Australia issued this $5 polymer banknote in 1996, featuring the signatures of Governor Ian John Macfarlane and Secretary to the Treasury Edward A. Evans. This note is part of the second polymer series introduced on 24 April 1995, which addressed public concerns about the similarity in color between the original 1992 $5 note and the $10 note.
The obverse displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, based on photographs commissioned by the Reserve Bank in 1984, accompanied by eucalyptus leaves. The reverse features images of both the Old and New Parliament Houses in Canberra, with a plan of the New Parliament House above them. This banknote measures 130 x 65 mm and was printed by Note Printing Australia in Melbourne.
