About this banknote

The Bank of Lithuania issued this series of banknotes in 1991 as temporary currency called "talonas" during Lithuania's transition from the ruble to its own currency after declaring independence from the Soviet Union in 1990. The talonas were introduced to combat hyperinflation and stabilize the monetary system.

This 3 talonas note (Pick 33) features a central motif of a large numeral "3" over pine branches. The obverse shows the year "1991" with the national coat of arms on the right. On the reverse, there are illustrations of two herons. The notes were printed by the United States Banknote Corporation and measure 120 x 75 mm.
