About this banknote
The Imperial Treasury of Portugal issued the 2400 réis banknote in 1805, as part of a series authorized by the decree of October 31, 1807. This series was later revalidated in 1828 during the reign of King Miguel I, with a red overprint featuring a crowned "D. MIGUEL I - 1828" stamp.
The obverse of the banknote displays a youthful helmeted warrior with a lion in a frame at the top center, flanked by branches and Portuguese arms. The red revalidation stamp is prominently placed above the text. The reverse side is blank, featuring only signatures. This note was demonetized on August 31, 1834.
