About this banknote
The National Bank of Poland (Narodowy Bank Polski) commissioned the printing of a new 20 złotych banknote dated March 1, 1990, as part of the planned fourth złoty series. However, this series was never issued into circulation due to a decision to adopt a more sophisticated design. In 1996, the unissued notes were overprinted with "NIEOBIEGOWY" (non-circulating) and released to collectors.
The obverse of the banknote features the 15th-century Żuraw crane in Gdańsk on the right side, with the Polish coat of arms on the left. The reverse depicts the Neptune Fountain in Gdańsk. The note measures 138 x 64 mm and was printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig, Germany.
