About this banknote
The Bank of Guatemala issued the 20 quetzales banknote (Pick 108) on February 12, 2003. This series was printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire in France, with a total production of 34,000,000 notes.
The front of the note features a portrait of Dr. Mariano Gálvez on the right, a quetzal bird flying over Mayan cultural heritage and sculptures, and a stylized pyramid. The reverse depicts an allegory of the granting of independence to Central America, flanked by Mayan god sculptures and adorned with Mayan writings and ornaments.
