About this banknote
The Banque de France issued the 20 francs banknote featuring Claude Debussy between 1980 and 1997. This series was introduced to honor the renowned French composer Claude Debussy (1862–1918).
The front of the banknote displays a portrait of Debussy at the right, based on a painting by Marcel Baschet from 1884, with a sea scene in the background referencing his orchestral work "La Mer." The reverse features the same portrait against a backdrop depicting the set design for the fountain scene from his opera "Pelléas et Mélisande." The note measures 140 x 75 mm and was demonetized on February 17, 2012.
