About this banknote
Norges Bank issued the 2 kroner banknote in 1918 to address a shortage of small change during World War I. This "coin note" (skillemyntseddel) was introduced to supplement the limited availability of metal coins at the time.
The obverse features an ornate frame surrounding the denomination, with the promissory text, value, and the signature of Chief Cashier P. Cederholm at the center. The reverse displays Norway's crowned coat of arms set upon a Saint Olav's Rose, with the denomination on either side. A total of 17,400,000 notes were printed, and they were demonetized on July 1, 1926.
