About this banknote

The Banque de l'Algérie et de la Tunisie issued the 10,000 Francs banknote in 1958, during the transition from the old franc to the new franc. To facilitate this change, existing banknotes were overprinted with their new values; this note bears an overprint of "100 Nouveaux Francs" on the original 10,000 Francs design.

The front of the banknote features Audouin's gulls with the city of Algiers in the background. This note measures 225 x 115 mm and was printed by the Banque de France in Paris. It carries the signatures of Jean Watteau, Antoine Civier, and Pierre Gandy.
