About this banknote
The Bank of Ghana issued the 10,000 cedis banknote on August 4, 2003. This release was part of the country's efforts to manage inflation and streamline cash transactions by introducing higher denomination notes.
The front of the note features the portraits of Ghana's "Big Six" leaders: Kwame Nkrumah, Ebenezer Ako Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo, Joseph Boakye Danquah, Emmanuel Odarkwei Obetsebi-Lamptey, and William Ofori Atta. The reverse side displays the Freedom and Justice Arch located in Independence Square, Accra. The note measures 155 x 78 mm and includes security features such as a windowed security thread with demetalized "GHANA 10000" and a watermark of a male head with an electrotype "10000." It was printed by De La Rue and signed by Paul A. Acquah.
