About this banknote
The Central Bank of Kenya issued the 1000 shilling banknote (Pick 45a) on April 1, 2003. This series was introduced following Mwai Kibaki's inauguration as president on December 30, 2002, replacing Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. The new notes reinstated the portrait of Kenya's first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
The front of the banknote features a left-centered portrait of President Kenyatta, with the coat of arms at the upper right center. The reverse side depicts a herd of elephants, a cattle egret, and two Cape buffalo. This note includes a narrow segmented security foil and measures 150 x 80 mm.
