About this banknote
The National Bank of Belgium issued the 1000 franc banknote (Pick 96) between 1922 and 1927. This series was introduced on June 15, 1922, with the first issues signed by Treasurer Henry Stacquet and Governor Léon Van der Rest. Subsequent issues featured signatures of Governors Fernand Hautain and Louis Franck, reflecting changes in the bank's leadership during that period.
The obverse of the banknote displays a conjoined portrait of King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth on the left side, set against a blue design on a light-pink underprint. The reverse features the Cloth Hall (Lakenhal) in Ypres at the bottom and a woman engaged in embroidery on the right. The banknote measures 223 x 135 mm and includes a watermark depicting a profile portrait of King Leopold I.
