About this banknote
The Banco Central de la República Argentina issued the 100 pesos banknote (Pick 286) in 1969 as part of a provisional series following the introduction of the peso ley under Law 18.188, effective April 5, 1969. This series involved overprinting existing 10,000 pesos moneda nacional notes (Pick 281) with the new denomination in the watermark area.
The front of the note features a deep red overprint of "100 Pesos" on the original design, which includes the Argentine coat of arms and a portrait of General José de San Martín in a suit with a bowtie. The reverse displays a depiction of cavalry and infantry, along with Generals Bernardo O'Higgins and José de San Martín on horseback, inspired by Pedro Subercaseaux’s painting "El abrazo de Maipú" (The Embrace of Maipú).
