About this banknote

The Italian Ministry of the Treasury issued the 100 lire banknote (Pick 92) on December 31, 1951. This was the final production of 100 lire paper denominations before the transition to coinage. Decrees in May and July 1952 ceased the creation of these notes, leading to their replacement by 100 lire coins starting in 1955.

The obverse features the personification "Italia Elmata" (Italy with helmet) on the left, designed by Edmondo Pizzi. The reverse displays the denomination "100 Lire" in red on a yellow underprint. The note measures 115 × 70 mm and was printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome. It was demonetized in October 1957.
