About this banknote
The Tesouro Nacional (National Treasury) of Brazil issued the 100 cruzeiros banknote (Pick 162) in 1960. This note is part of the Estampa 2A series, which was introduced between 1953 and 1960. The series was printed by Thomas De La Rue & Company, Limited, London, and featured the signatures of Carlos Augusto Carrilho, Director of the Amortization Fund (1960–1961), and Sebastião Paes de Almeida, Finance Minister (1958–1961).
The obverse of the banknote displays a red design on a multicolor underprint, with a central portrait of Dom Pedro II, the second and last Emperor of Brazil. The reverse features a red-brown depiction of an allegorical figure representing National Culture. Measuring 157 x 67 mm, this banknote was demonetized on February 12, 1967.
